ICBR JUDGE REQUIREMENTS

The Innovative Canine Breeder’s Registry has established a new policy requiring that prospective judges possess a minimum of five years of experience with their breed. This includes having bred and raised at least three to five litters in their home and produced or owned two or more ICBR champions. Additionally, candidates must successfully complete tests on dog anatomy and ring procedures, and have as an ICBR Representative or ring steward at a minimum of three shows.

What are the specific requirements to become an ICBR judge?

Judging is a distinguished privilege that represents years of experience in the dog sport. Judges are required to be thoughtful, knowledgeable, and cognizant of their responsibilities to the breeders and exhibitors who present their dogs, as well as accountable to the Innovative Canine Breeder’s Registry for their actions. The authority to approve individuals to judge at events sanctioned by the Innovative Canine Breeder’s Registry is exclusively held by the Registry.

The sport of purebred dogs heavily depends on its judges. Conformation judges must possess a thorough understanding of the breed standards they assess and be familiar with the rules of the sport. Whether you are a current judge or an aspiring one, you are dedicated to a lifelong commitment to learning and expanding your knowledge of the sport you wish to officiate. A judge has a unique opportunity to shape a breed and its development, as their daily decisions can significantly impact breeding programs for years to come.

Judges participating in this sport are required to uphold the principles established by the Innovative Canine Breeder’s Registry. ICBR judges must demonstrate courtesy and professionalism throughout their duties. Any conduct that is unprofessional or that undermines the reputation of the Innovative Canineeder’s Registry will not be tolerated. Each time you enter the ring, your conduct, appearance, and adherence to ring procedures will be closely monitored.

Judging is not solely about assessing dogs; it also involves engaging with people. We have all been newcomers to this sport, and our ongoing participation is largely attributed to the positive experiences we've had. As a judge, you frequently act as the first point of contact for exhibitors with the Innovative Canine Breeder’s Registry. It is crucial to represent both yourself and the organization as credible and knowledgeable, demonstrating your capability in this significant role. You bear the responsibility of ensuring that all exhibitors have a positive experience to the best of your ability.

It is essential to remember that exhibitors are relying on your professional expertise. Every dog warrants your undivided attention and an impartial assessment. When discussing your decisions with an exhibitor, incorporate breed-specific terminology to support your evaluation or refer to the official language of the rules when addressing performance. This approach enhances the exhibitor's confidence in your knowledge, regardless of the outcome of the competition. All ICBR judges must be vigilant in avoiding any situations that may suggest impropriety. If you have any reservations about a situation being perceived as inappropriate, it is advisable to steer clear of it entirely. The reputation of an ICBR judge should remain above reproach.

Once you receive certification to judge with the Innovative Canine Breeder’s Registry, your conduct will reflect your ability in this role. This is relevant not only during the events you officiate but also in your personal life. Your behavior on social media and in public will be taken into account when evaluating your qualifications as an ICBR judge. Actions that negatively represent the Innovative Canine Breeder’s Registry, its events, or exhibitors could result in disciplinary action.

. DRESS CODE - It is essential that we present ourselves well and dress appropriately. This includes wearing nice casual to professional clothing that allows for movement and comfort. Please refrain from wearing revealing or excessively tight attire.
